BRM, or “Bone Rhythm Moment” Therapy, is a light-touch therapeutic manual technique established by Kunio Yoshida in Japan. BRM blends a Western Medicine understanding of the human body with authentic Japanese hands-on manipulative technique.

BRM Therapy can approach the Muscular system, Skeletal system, Nervous system, Lymphatic system and Fascia all at once.

Oscillations caused by subtle internal body cycles such as circulation of body fluid, breathing, pulsing and the cerebrospinal fluid cycle transmit through the dura mater, which surrounds the central nervous system. From there the oscillations radiate through the periosteum surrounding the bones to the ligaments, tendons, muscle, fascia all the way to the skin.

Bone rhythm is a palpable unique subtle movement made by the bones which are synchronized with those oscillation cycles.

Using Bone rhythm as an intrinsic mechanical drive and stimulating the neurosensory function by skin manipulation, BRM Therapy facilitates the body to self correct and release restrictions and thereby reach its own optimal balance.

BRM Therapy has been studied and practiced not only among Massage therapists but also Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Manual therapists, Medical doctors, Dentists, and Midwives in Japan.

What is BRM Therapy?
How does it feel?
BRM Approach to Body

To be effective, the most important principle of BRM Therapy is not to suppress the bone rhythm during treatment. In the view of BRM Therapy, when the body receives strong pressure, it immediately reacts and the tissue gets tense. This suppresses the bone rhythm and prevents the body’s self-correcting ability. Therefore, the touch during treatment is very light as that of a mother touching her baby’s skin.

The sensation clients can feel during treatment varies and also changes with experience. Some people will feel bone or muscle movement, sometimes the whole body might shift or there won’t be much of a sensation during the session but most of the people felt some differences after the session and symptoms get better after few days.

Since BRM Therapy tries to work on the root cause of problems, movements can also often be felt in areas the practitioner is not touching.

The client will be fully clothed during the BRM Therapy session.

BRM Therapy is an extremely gentle, yet powerful technique, since it approaches the root cause of the problem by addressing functional imbalances in the body.

BRM Therapy views the body as a continuous unit and views the cause of pain and dysfunction as a result of the lack of connective balance. This means that oftentimes the area that is painful is not the main source of the problem, but there is instead an underlying cause outside the actual pain area.

To find the cause of the problem, BRM Therapy assesses the body from the viewpoint of biomechanics of the articulations and kinesiology: As a kinetic chain of muscles and bones working together to achieve balance of the functional axis of the body.

How many sessions does it take?

As each person’s situation and their goal is different, the healing journeys vary.

Many people experience significant improvement within 3 to 5 consecutive therapy sessions. Others may require additional sessions.

Each session is planned based on your goal and how your body responds to treatment.
